Just got back from France   Leave a comment

I’ve had another great season toing and froing between the UK and France trying to do as many comps as possible as well as skiing with the Freestyle Club in Les Deux Alpes. Found it hard this year because I have had to keep returning to school for the odd week so it’s been really hard for me to get in to a routine but hey I managed to spend around 15 weeks on snow so not all bad! Did a few of the SFR comps in France which turned out to be a disaster as each time they either cancelled through bad weather or changed the date, in Vars I waited around for 2 days and then when they decided to run it I had to jump in my Dad’s car and head out to Austria to meet up with the GB development squad for some pre-Brits training. Had a great 10 days in Hoff hitting the pro line jumps then back to school for 4 days !!! before heading out to Tignes for the British Championships. Wasn’t going there with any great expectations because I had moved up an age group to the Youth Category but I was stoked on the first day to get a Bronze in the ski cross, not bad considering I hadn’t been on race skis for a year and was skiing on someone elses skis! Then came slopestyle, I decided to go for it and hit the bigger jumps as I guessed that everyone in my category would be doing this but I was one of the only ones, thought it would give me the advantage because I pulled out some steezy jumps but got bronze which I was still stoked about and I made it in to the overall final. Final day came halfpipe, had a good feeling about it as I always enjoy the pipe, qualified first in my age group and fourth overall, pulled out my best run ever landing a sweet 720 which took me up to third on the overall podium behind the Machon brothers. All in all a great Brits, thought I skied well, had lots of fun with everyone. A massive thanks to my number one fan Dad, for supporting me all the way.

Had a fantastic time at the Kumi Yama 2012 event in Les Deux Alpes, got to ski with Kelly Sildaru all week (and with Henry her awesome brother). I teamed up with Madi Rowlands and we called ourselves Roast Beef! We did really well and got through to the finals in the Kids Comp only to be beated to 3rd place by Kelly and Henry, Mike Rowlands and his team mate Alex took first prize. The theme of Mario was great and the atmosphere fantastic. I look forward to “Riding for Japan” next year.

Snowtrax Jam   Leave a comment

Travelled to Chrsitchurch yesterday to take part in the Snowtrax Jam, the new surface was a bit slow but everyone got used to it, I felt good all night and landed some sweet 7’s and a few switch tricks.  Great to be riding with Haydn and Ethan as I haven’t seen them since the Brits.   Madi & Mike Rowlands did really well, both taking first place.  All in all had a great time with everyone.

Back in the UK   Leave a comment

Now back in the UK after my season in Les Deux Alpes.  I had a great time skiing with all the guys and girls! from Smithys, Smokeys and the Polar Bear Pub.   My racing definitely improved skiing with the ESF race squad and my freestyle reached another level for me, the big jumps don’t scare me any more!  Thanks to Will Burrows, the diggers and Jack for teaching me new tricks and making sure I had a good time and to everyone for looking out for me.  Hope I will be back next season.   Take a look at all the edits in my blog that I did during my time in L2A.

The Brits 2012 – Laax, Switzerland   Leave a comment

On 18th March we drove from Les Deux Alpes to Laax in Switzerland for the British Freestyle Championships.  I was really excited as it would be my first time competing in the Brits.   It’s an awesome place, the apartment was great.   The weather on the first day wasn’t great but I still headed up for a ski, in the evening I went to the freestyle academy where I met up with Madi , Mike & Lexi  Rowlands, Ethan, Haydn, Molly, Mason and loads of other people, the academy was great fun,  loads of trampolines and a massive foam pit.   The following day was pipe, I didn’t feel too confident because I hadn’t really done a lot of pipe training and when we got up on the mountain we found that the pipe wasn’t in great condition.  I was really struggling on my practise runs. I put a solid first run in so felt confident to throw a new trick at the end of my 2nd run, i managed a 540 which was the first time I had landed it.  Was stoked when I got the gold.   The next day was skier cross, was really confident but it all went horribly wrong in the final when i lost my racing line and saw Mason, Kyle and Will ski to podium places.  Slopestyle was next, it was really warm so conditions were slushy, i messed up my first run and then laid down a good 2nd run until i fell on my 7 on the last kicker, was absoltuely gutted as I knew that i blown any chance of a podium place.  The final day was big air, my practise jumps were really clean, on my first jump I did a nice 360, Haydn tried a switch 9 but fell and Kyle landed a 7 so I knew that on my 2nd jump i had to throw a 7.   Haydn landed his 2nd jump which was a switch 9, I nailed a great 7 and  Kyle missed his 9 so I knew that I was on the podium. Stoked when I got silver behind Haydn, and Kyle took bronze.

I had a fantastic week in Laax and loved skiing with everyone, it was a great experience and I learnt alot, I hope I get the chance to go back there next year.

Trip to Austria with ESSkiA   Leave a comment

Just got back from Pitztal with the England Schools Squad, had a great time, got 3rd in GS, 3rd in slalom and 3rd overall. Beaten by the Leo and Harry.  Got put in the top group with Ben Porter as our coach, felt that all the skiing i had been doing in France paid off and my technique was much better.

First 720 in the bag   Leave a comment

Had a great day today, got up and it had snowed overnight, conditions looked rubbish but my Mum and i decided to head up glad we did because the park was awesome and i had it to myself almost. Decided to just ride the biggest kicker next to the drag, stomped 4 540’s so with a bit of encouragement from Luca decided to throw a 7, missed the first one but nailed the 2nd, great feeling. Uphill from now!!

Here’s looking at 4 months on the slopes   3 comments

Arrived in L2A on 27th December with 16 weeks skiing ahead of me, weird feeling. Can’t thank my school enough for giving me this opportunity, although it’s not all skiing I have got to fit some study in too. Joined my ESF Race Group had the standard “Roast Beef” chants but they seem to be getting used to me and I think they were a bit shocked when I beat some of them in a local GS race yesterday in L2A and my French is improving. Having a great time with Will Burrows, persuaded me to stop messing around on the small kickers and just hit the bit ones so that’s exactly what we did and all was going well till I saw big Si dressed in a Polar Bear suit, not a pretty sight!! Also got to ski with my great buddy Luca yesterday and as far as I can tell I’m still his “Champion”. Living the dream, skiing, sun and Smithy’s battered prawns (but only available for their favourite sponsored skier – sorry!) Home this weekend for the ESSkiA training weekend.

Mini Brits freestyle 2011   Leave a comment

On 24th September i went to Castleford for the mini brits freestyle competition. I had to get up at 4:30AM registration was at 8:00AM. We were allowed on the ski slope at 9:00AM for practice on the rails and boxes.

Our first rail run was at 9:00AM. I was the fourth one to go down in our age group i did a good run then we did another rail run and i did an even better run and scored 23.5.

We had a 10 minute break until we went onto our box runs. On my first run my ski came off during 270 off. On my second run i made it and scored 19 so my total was 42.5. After skiing we had a long break then we had prize giving and i got 4th so it was a good day. Got home late that night..

Thanks dad for the driving!!
